I think I am better off listening to heart!

Postby spotify95 » March 26th, 2014, 10:24 am

Yes, I may not like it's bad segueways (see http://www.mixcloud.com/spotify95 and you'll see what I mean), and I may not like the variety, but I was just tortured with the Capital/Connect duo! :(

I was listening to capital, trying to get the best reception possible on my phone's FM tuner... listening to Katy Perry... well, turns out my favourite song EVER (yes ever, I haven't ever heard a better song in my life!) was on Connect! And it's not the type of song connect usually play!

what do I do? Try and hope it comes on Connect again (very unlikely), or just settle with "more music variety"?

Thanks for the advice. :)

Yes, I kept with heart for half an hour (as the cutoffs weren't so bad today) before moving on to Kiss. All the time, I was using my FM transmitter to send a signal to my FM Radio (testing out the phones radio tuner) and it was set over the top of Connect's frequency! (on 97.2FM). All the time I was listening to Heart/Kiss, via my fm transmitter, the signal was rock steady! :) In fact, even downstairs it worked - though the reception wasn't as good as upstairs.
Nevertheless, Connect didn't even get a look in! :D

If I had one, and it wasn't illegal in the UK, I'd have bought a 0.1W or a 1W transmitter (instead of a stupid 50nW transmitter) and totally wiped the Connect out of Northamptonshire! :D

Wait, because I only had a 50nW transmitter, can I sue Ofcom?

And maybe, just maybe, I could buy one of the 500mW transmitters with the money! :D

I don't think it's fair, that in the USA, they are allowed to use 100mW transmitters (milliwatts) yet in the UK the power is 50 nW (nanowatts).

To put that into perspective, one is bigger than the other by a factor of 10^7. :banghead:

What would Ofcom do if they found someone broadcasting at a higher transmission power than allowed? I would like to broadcast through the whole house/neighbourhood but unfortunately 50 nW hardly covers the house!

Maybe they wouldn't fine you for it, but would try and find other ways of making money from it!

As for feeling jealous about how it is in the USA compared to here, to make yourself feel better about it, why not sue William Hill Casino for it?

I'd be better off suing Demon FM, to be honest. ;)

One day, I may just buy a higher powered fm transmitter, and if they complain, who cares!
If it's too powerful, just stick a signal attenuator on and it'll knock the signal back down again ;)

Fast forward a few years, and I haven't bothered listening to Heart FM for ages - literally ages. The reason: their music hasn't improved and their bad segues/cutoffs are also still present. Connect FM is now actually worth listening to (following changes implemented in their music section) and Capital FM is very good.

Btw, it makes me astounded that, when I first made this, I was using my old ZTE Blade 3 smartphone - and currently, the aforementioned smartphone is still in use by a family member who uses it just as a basic phone. The ZTE has been going for a good 4 years now (6 months of which, I owned it, before switching to a Galaxy S4, and more recently, a Galaxy S7 Edge).

At a council owned gym in Scunthorpe called The Pods, the PA system sometimes has Heart Extra playing, but I haven't found any faults with it.

Heart Extra is probably just an offshoot of Heart FM and therefore any faults that are present on Heart FM are likely to be present with Heart Extra.

They must be using DAB, since that is what Heart Extra is on, but if they can get DAB then surely Capital FM UK or even KISS FM UK would be a better bet?

Sometimes they do have Capital FM on instead, (formerly Galaxy 105).
