Please remember that Binary is in Base 2, so only uses 0's and 1's.
Thus, powers of 2 are used.

Hence, 1 in binary = 001
But 2 in binary is 010, since only 1's and 0's are used in binary.
Hence, 6 in binary is: 01000

Just to recap, in binary, you add 1 to the previous number. If the previous digit is a 1, then carry across.
Example, carrying from 5 to 6:
5: 01001
6 = 01001 + 00001 = 01010
Hope that settles things
