What's wrong with this eBay listing? :D

Postby spotify95 » April 12th, 2017, 4:36 pm

This is the listing in question:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322479221728

3x EXTERNAL HALOGEN FLOODLIGHTS 70W working c/w brkts and bulbs 7 inch lens

Now, what is wrong with the aforementioned listing? There's something wrong with it, that makes it not accurate.

First person on here to find the error (and correct it) gets some juicy rep points! :D

They are actually metal halide or low pressure sodium lamps?

Imageeriously, life's too short to be worried about retards on an internet forum. :eek2: :eek3:

You've got it in one! :D They are indeed metal halide lamps, not halogen as stated in the title and description.

Not content on this, they've also messed up yet again...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322456893494 - 80W floodlights, listed as "halogen" in the description. They certainly do not look like halogen lamps, I've never seen a halogen lamp like that before.
Reason? Because they're not halogen, they're mercury vapor.

And last, but not list, some more 150W "halogen" lamps with green covers (to make the light look green):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322479223846

Although, if you look in the description, there is the mention of one of them being 70W according to the ballast... Halogen lamps do not require ballasts, therefore this quite obviously isn't halogen! 70W and 150W bulbs of this nature are obviously going to be metal halide, which they are.

Please, do your research before you list specialist type of lamp (or any lamp in particular) so that you get everything right! As the buyer may be looking for halogen lights (for use with a PIR) and then they get something completely unusable (mercury and metal halide lamps can't be used in PIRs as they have to be left on for long periods of time, they take up to 5 minutes to warm up and they need a 5 minute cooldown period when the power is lost).

Reps going your way :D

Can we throw bricks at their home because of the misleading listing?

Now now, let's not be so harsh and hostile...
Reason? I contacted the seller and they have changed their listings to include the new types of light bulb - ie mercury vapor and metal halide. So all is good now as people will now get the types of bulbs they are looking for.
Remember, it's not good buying a "halogen" bulb for a PIR motion detector, then realizing it is metal halide or mercury vapor, both of which are completely unsuitable for use on a PIR.
