3 of them seem to be yet to be replaced

Correct, though that was when they were in the middle of being retrofitted

They have since been re-fitted with LEDs, and the LEDs all work nicely

Those lights are now just how they were when Queens was firstly opened though now daylight instead of white, slightly dimmer in brightness, and a lot more efficient!
Though what do you expect from switching from 150W metal halide, to 12W LED?

The ones that look to be "broken off" were in the middle of being retrofitted when I took the photos. They have since been converted to LED and put back up, and are now working.
Switching from Metal Halide to LED involves removing all of the guts of those fittings, since Metal Halide light fittings require ignitors, capacitors and ballasts in addition to the lamp. LEDs just require the lamp; all the circuitry is inside the LED bulb.
Obviously, all of the ballasts had burnt out, as had most of the caps and ignitors - so new internals were required if even to get them back to Metal Halide - which ofc, is very inefficient and maintenance heavy.

The name of the building is Queens Building - probably named so because it was opened by Her Majesty in 1993 - the foyer/concourse area of the building (across all 3 floors) is where these random, inefficient, non working metal halide light fittings are.

Most of the inaccessible fittings still remain as-is at the moment; they are due to be replaced within the next year.
Hopefully, I will be able to reclaim all of these metal halide fittings, since the overall plan (when all of them come down) is to put brighter LEDs in, in new fittings, and remove all old fittings. So basically, DMU might have saved me the hassle of converting some of the lamps to LED!

Oh, and the foyer looks nicer, brighter, and more appealing.

More progress today!

Checked the Queens Building Foyer again today and to my surprise, saw some workmen in the ground floor foyer area. They were taking down some old knackered 2D style fluorescent bulbs (that were probably original to the building - what a surprise there!) and replacing them with much brighter, energy efficient LEDs. Photos of the concourse to come in due course - you should note the difference as the old plastic shrouds were blocking a lot of the light from the fluorescent lights! And of course, LED is brighter as a technology, for a given power rating.

Funny you should say that as a few more streets in Scunthorpe now have the new LED lighting!

Well, here are the attachments, as I said before...

Now we have the full setup of the Queens Building Foyer, regarding the metal halide lights, in that we now have "Before", "Stage 1: During" and "Stage 1: After" photos.

Note that this is only Stage 1. Stage 2 is for the lot to come down and be replaced with new fittings.

Also note that a couple of new LED spotlights/floodlights have been installed to give certain areas of the foyer more light (in particular, the entrances to a lecture theater) and also that some bloody ancient 2D fluorescent lights (which were original to the building!) are now history, with LED replacements installed.

Looks like we have nice progress - and that finally, the building that doesn't seem to have been touched since 1993 is finally getting some TLC !
